The gloss is an important inspection standard in stone polished quality. The are two main inspection method for gloss checking. One is visually checking and the other is by using gloss meter.

For visual inspection, people use lights to check the stone surface. Taking a vertical view, back lighting view and from lighting view to check the surface with light flash on different locations to see if the polishing quality is clear.

For using gloss meter, people check 9 different locations on edges and center of stone surface, average the value on gloss meter to get the final gloss. It is not correct to check just one or two locations on stone surface because the stone contains different rock material which have different index of refraction.
